What works for me?
Aprons!
Seriously, now. Don’t give me that look.
If your vision of aprons looks anything like this or this, than let me introduce you to a whole new crop of clothes savers.
Hello friend, will you stop this evening’s marinara from bubbling up on my clothes?
And you girl, will you keep the soapy suds from dripping on me?
Hi there pal, will you come in bathroom with me? We have some scrubbing to do.
I used to store my aprons in a drawer behind the dish towels. Surprisingly they didn’t serve much kitchen time. Last fall, I installed a hook near the entry ways to my kitchen and hung some sassy aprons up there. It single-handedly stopped the steady stream of staining to my clothing.
I love to cook, but I am clumsy and messy. It’s true. I splatter. I splash. I kind of resemble the toddlers in the kiddie pool. And my methods of cleaning aren’t much cleaner.
After years of having to change my clothes before the guests arrived, I remembered that my grandmas used this handy thing called an apron for that very purpose. Wow, they were smart.
And look at how cute aprons are!
Really, it’s time to bring back the apron. What do you have to lose? Stains, perhaps?
I don’t have to change clothes before my guests arrive, because I don’t really cook! But I do have a few aprons…mostly used when I taught art. I LOVED them and can only imagine that they WOULD be fun in the kitchen. I bet you look DARLING in each and every one of your aprons. How many do you own?
Yes, Aprons are wonderful. I love looking through etsy at all of the beautiful ones that people have posted. So many beautiful materials.
I love Anthropologie too!
I recently bought my first apron. I love it. The ones you showed are really cute.
Too cute for words! I’ll be checking those out! Thanks! 🙂
I’m so sad.
I completely, totally, and forever more ruined my very favorite black Heart concert t-shirt last week WITH A SINGLE DROP OF BLEACH!!!
If only I’d worn an apron that day.
a few things…
1. this makes me want to make aprons…while wearing my homemade sewing apron/tool belt
2. did you ever show us the cute gift you made for a friend? i think it was for a boy baby?
3. i’ve been thinking about doing wfmw, but i always forget my favorite ideas. figures.
4. either i’ll see you before summer’s out, or i’ll see you when my kids are in school. we MUST do coffee…or a sewing project together soon. if we can’t get together in the next month and a half, we should just give up altogether ;).
Aprons are just the best and I am so glad your enjoying wearing yours. I started a labor of love online store for aprons and sometime I think people thinks I am nuts when I tell them how great apron are and what a difference they make. I am so messy sometimes that I wear am apron while I am eating too. So please, when you have a minute check out my site: http://www.eThoughtfulThings.com for more apron styles to help you stay neat.
Thanks, Maggie
i so agree!! darby made me the sweetest one ever for my birthday last year, and it’s one of my favorite things. just thinking of it makes me happy.
I’ve never thought of wearing an apron, what a great idea!
I LOVE them! Did you notice the bestseller of the Jessie Steele aprons is the “Children’s Bib Ava 50’s Kitchen Apron”. Now that’s perfect! I’ve seen that Ava has aprons, but does she have an Ava apron?
I have enjoying my time, vsiiting your blog. I am too always changing my clothes because i am messy in the kitchen, these aprons are super cute. thanks for the link.
[…] I suppose it is in keeping with the whole old-timey theme of no cell phone, no land line, bright aprons and fresh cherry pie. Seriously if I don’t have a cell phone I clearly shouldn’t have a […]
