It’s no secret that I love summer. I like it hot. Very hot. So hot you have to swim to cool off hot.
I like it sundress hot. Flip-flop hot. Tall glass of ice tea hot.
When the temperature drops, my mood wants to take the same path.
This year, I’m flirting with the idea of embracing fall. It would be so much easier if I didn’t know what comes after fall. But fall with it’s cool mornings and warms colors is enticing. Perhaps if make a list of all that is lovely in autumn, I wouldn’t dread it so much.
Here’s my start:
Crisp, tart apples

Pumpkins on doorsteps
Leaves, leaves, leaves
Steaming apple cider
Hay rides
Cozy scarves
Butternut squash soup
Oh fall soups are good. Very good.
Do you love fall? What’s on your list?

Rachel, I relate to your fallish flirtation oh so much for I have been embarking on the very embracing journey you speak of! It’s always seemed that everyone else loved fall while my heart was melted to summer. But then I moved to St. Louis and took a hay ride to the orchard where I tasted the crisp jonagold apples fresh from a tree. I baked an apple pie with these non-Shnuck’s delights. I broke out my scarf collection that’s actually practical in Missouri (I wore them in New Mexico, but looked like an east-coast poser). I’ve even been counting down the days to a pumpkin-picking palooza so I can decorate my own stoop! I can’t stop smiling as the leaves crunch under my feet in world that is suddenly hued in crimson, persimmon, gold, and coffee! I have but one thing to add to your list: harvest-flavored candles like the one burning in my bedroom right now. Here’s to fall–the new love of my life! (Also, I’m going to have to try out that butternut squash. I think you even posted the recipe a while back).
1. Colored Leaves
2. Northern MN trips
3. Pumpkin Spice Lattes
4. The smell of campfires & burning fireplaces in the air
5. Honeycrisp Apples
6. Caramel Apples
7. Sweaters & hoodies
8. The suspense of post-season Twins baseball (here’s hoping!)
9. Hot Cocoa & Apple Cider
10. Soup
Love that cute french outfit!….tres chic!
I’ll let you keep your butternut squash soup. But I am glad you might be falling for fall. I love the sound of those crunchy leaves. All the edible delights we make from the apple tree. And the cooler but not cold weather. Definitly there is more but thats good for now!
As I was reading your post I was like,
Crisp, tart apples, yup! Cozy scarves, oh yeah!
Butternut squash soup, just bought the squash at the pumpkin patch!
Additions: hayrides. hot cocoa. Fire – inside or out (controlled, of course). My favorite fall soup is Potato-cheese. If you want the recipe let me know! Of course I love grilled cheese and tomato soup, and wild rice soup.
