Does the feeling inform the word or does the word inform the feeling?
AVA: I can’t go in my room ‘cause I’m nervous.
ME: What do you mean, you’re nervous?
AVA: I’m just nervous.
ME: Ava, what does nervous mean?
AVA: I don’t know.
ME: If you don’t know what it means, how do you know you’re nervous?
AVA: I just am.
ME: What do you think it means?
AVA: To be scared?
ME: Not quite.
AVA: To be missing somebody?
ME: No.
AVA: Well, what does it mean then?
ME: To be worried that something is going to happen.
AVA: Well then I’m worried that something is going to happen.

Hi,

My 3 year old likes to have these exact debates with me
He’ll say he’s worried and I’ll ask what that means and he’ll say “I don’t know.” And he always then asks me what it means, even though he’s using it in the right context. Must be hard to navigate the whole english language. Nice to not have to remember doing so later in life
Kelly from Love Well told me about your blog. I love it. I’ll visit again!
Heather
LOVE it!!!
Oh, I just love this little girl! She has such an incredibly inquisitive little mind, and she’s sure to keep you on your toes.
Rachel, what kind of camera do you use? You capture some amazing shots…I love the pictures in the post below.
Sometimes I’m nervous to go in my room too. I’m always hoping that the Clothes Folding Fairies come and put away my clothes, that are usually on our bed. Then I think, “oh, shoot, why haven’t they done that for me yet?” But then I think there’s a slight chance they might start. Then I get nervous that they might decide not to.
I’d love to be having a conversation like this with sweet Ava.
